Evacuation warnings lifted in Gravelly Mountain fires

Evacuation warnings for the Wigwam and Monument wildfires will be lifted Tuesday night.

Officials with the U.S. Forest Service said the evacuation warning on the Haypress Lakes area within the Shining Mountain Lakes area will be lifted at 6 p.m., Aug. 21.

Fire crews will remain active on both fires. Equipment will continue to use the roads in the Haypress Lakes area.

Officials remind the public to be mindful that firefighters and fire equipment are still actively involved in fire suppression and may be working from nearby roadways.

There has been no increase in acreage for the past couple days on either the Monument and Wigwam Fire.

The Wigwam Fire was detected on August 11, 2018, and has now been burning for 11 days. The fires, Monument and Wigwam are located south and west of Ennis, MT in very rough mountainous terrain, in the 9,000-foot elevation range, within the Gravelly Range Mountains south of Ennis

The Beartooth Wildlife Management Area is closed due to wildfire activity. An area and road closure is in effect for the perimeter of both fires to protect the public.

Due to the Monument and Wigwam fires burning on the Madison Ranger District the following roads are within the emergency fire closure area: FDR 290 Gravelly Range Road is closed from FDR 237 Standard Creek Road, north to forest boundary near Arasta Creek. FDR 292 Call Road from the forest boundary, west to Gravelly Range Road.FDR 324 Johnny Gulch Road from the forest boundary west to Gravelly Range Road.FDR 8325 Timber Creek Road is closed from Ruby River Road to forest boundary north of Baldy Mountain.FDR 100 Ruby River Road is open, the area east of the road is closed to public entry. FDR 237 Standard Creek Road and FDR 1012 Cottonwood Road are open, the areas north of both roads are closed to public entry.
