O’FALLON, Mo. (KMOV) — Two students and one adult were taken to the hospital after a school bus crashed near O’Fallon, Missouri Wednesday morning.

The crash occurred on Hickory Hill Drive near Genteman Road around 7 a.m. According to officials, the bus veered off the road, hit a tree and came to a rest in a ditch.

When EMS crews arrived on the scene, all the kids had escaped from the bus except for one. Crews then had to pull out the student that was trapped.

A spokesperson for the Fort Zumwalt School District confirmed to News 4 that one of their buses was involved in an accident. A fire official said the students were traveling to Fort Zumwalt North Middle School for the first day of school.

“I hated that it happened on the first day of school because this was supposed to be a happy day,” said parent Amanda Spence.

The students who were on the bus at the time at the time of the crash were picked up by parents and school officials.

The bus reportedly skidded on the blacktop, stopping at 45-degree angle on an embankment at the side of the road, according to a statement from the Fort Zumwalt School District.
