ORANGE BEACH, AL (WALA) — A Foley man was cited for leaving the scene of an accident this morning. He was caught after dropping his car off at a nearby body shop a short time after this morning’s accident, according to Orange Beach Police.
It was at about 6:10 a.m. when Orange Beach Police responded to the intersection of Alabama 161 and Alabama 182 for a reported accident.
According to police, upon arrival officers determined that a black Nissan Xterra had caused damage to a pedestrian crosswalk signal. According to witnesses, the vehicle had driver side front damage and a shattered windshield.
At about 8:35 a.m., police said, they were contacted by a citizen who saw an Orange Beach Police Facebook post regarding the accident and the involved vehicle description. The caller saw the vehicle turn into a body shop on Alabama 59 in Gulf Shores.
Officers responded to the location and determined that the driver of the vehicle had dropped the vehicle off and left, police said. Vehicle parts left at the scene were confirmed to have come from the vehicle left at the body shop, police said.
Allen Preston Tillis, 50 of Foley was identified as the driver of the vehicle, police said, and he was located at his residence in Foley.
Police said Tillis admitted to leaving the scene and was cited for leaving the scene of an accident. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash, police said.
A court date of Oct. 11 has been set for Tillis’ appearance in the Orange Beach Municipal Court.
