Bay County, MI (WNEM) — Authorities raided three Mid-Michigan spas in an investigation into a possible prostitution ring.

Lt. Dave Kaiser with Michigan State Police said on Thursday afternoon troopers conducted three simultaneous raids at spas in Bay County looking for evidence of prostitution.

The raids took place at the following locations, according to Kaiser:

The Green Spa located at 105 S.Huron Road in Kawkawlin
Kawkawlin Tan and Spa located at 208 S. Huron Road in Kawkawlin
Euclid Spa located at 808 N. Euclid Street in Bangor Township
“It’s a little scary. A little crazy,” said Bridget Thibeault.

Thibeault lives just a stone’s throw away from Euclid Spa in Bay City.

“We have kids, our grandkids that are around a lot and you don’t want people like that around your kids and grandkids,” Thibeault said.

Lt. Kaiser said the three spas have been on their radar for a while.

“We began the investigation about a year ago,” Kaiser said. “The initial complaint involved human trafficking. However, what we found was it wasn’t human trafficking but actually a prostitution ring.”

Kaiser said no arrests have been made and the Bay County Prosecutor is reviewing the case.

Meanwhile, Kaiser has advice for customers looking for a legitimate massage.

“Make sure they have a licensed masseuse on scene,” Kaiser said. “Make sure they have that. Most of the credible businesses will have that information displayed on the wall when you walk in.”

For her part, Thibeault says she’s not surprised about the raid. She hopes the nearby business closes its door for good.

“They need to be shut down,” Thibeault said. “That’s not what spas are for. Spas are supposed to be massages not prostitution.”

No arrests were made. Evidence will be sent to the prosecutor’s office for review.

The three spas were open for business. TV5 did approach them but only one spa opened its door to have someone come out and talk.

That person did not what to be identified, but stated they did nothing wrong.
