Chandler, AZ (KNXV) — A Chandler woman says she stood guard by 30 of her neighbors’ mailboxes Friday, after finding at least two rows left open.

“At least 25 people could’ve had their mail, their packages, their information, identities could’ve all been taken,” said Tasha Nelson.

Her gated community, Via Del Cielo off Dobson and Pecos roads, has already had its share of issues with mail delivery.

Nelson said she and her neighbors received letters from their HOA last week, warning them of package thieves.

“Just having received that flyer last week, and then to see this today was just very frustrating,” she explained.

Nelson stood next to the open mailboxes and called everyone she could think of. She called the non-emergency line for Chandler Police, who advised her to call her local post office. She says she tried multiple numbers, but never got anyone on the phone.

She says after 45 minutes, her wife went to the Anderson Springs Post Office in person and asked to speak with a supervisor about the issue. That’s when a mailman came to her community, key in hand, and locked the open rows of mailboxes. She and several other neighbors confronted him about the issue and recorded the conversation.

The man in the video said he was not the carrier who delivered mail there earlier in the day but said he had no explanation for what happened.

Nelson says she never heard back from the post office. ABC15 also reached out to find out what you can do if this ever happens in your community.
