    DES MOINES, Iowa (KCCI) —
An unusual sight brought police to the southside of Des Moines Tuesday.

Des Moines police officers were called to the Evergreen Terrace Apartments when residents noticed unusual movement inside a parked Dodge Caliber.

Upon arrival, authorities said they found about 10 chickens sitting in the car.

Management at Evergreen Terrace Apartments said the chickens belong to refugees from Nepal and that they are not allowed inside the apartment.

Animal control officers said the chickens were not in distress, in apparent good health and have food and water.

A Des Moines ordinance on raising chickens in the city says cages or coops shall be 25 feet away from a residence but does not mention anything about using a car as a coop.

Animal Rescue League of Iowa officials said the organization plans to follow up with the chickens on Wednesday.
