Barksdale (KTBS ) — A military jury on Thursday convicted a Barksdale Air Force Base airman of killing his roommate during a deployment to Guam last year.

The jury deliberated over the course of three days before reaching the verdict against Airman Isaiah Edwards.

The seven-officer jury was scheduled to Thursday afternoon for a sentencing hearing. Edwards, 22, faces up to life in prison.

Edwards was convicted of stabbing 20-year-old Airman Bradley Hale last March at their quarters at Andersen Air Force Base in Guam.

Prosecutors said Hale was stabbed repeatedly and Edwards tried to wash the blood off himself before calling for help for his roommate.

Airmen in an adjoining room heard a commotion, went to check and saw Hale being attacked, prosecutors said.

Edwards says he killed Hale in self defense.

Hale and Edwards were part of crews and planes from Barksdale who had been temporarily deployed to Guam as part of tensions between the United States and North Korea. Both Hale and Edwards were electronic warfare journeymen.

Hale’s father, Rodney, attended the entire trial.

“The family and I are beside ourselves, even though it will not bring my son back,” Hale said after the verdict. “The justice system prevailed and hopefully he’ll get the maximum wrath of the justice system.”
