Greenwood, SC (WYFF) — Two Upstate police officers helped save the life of a 3-year-old child who had stopped breathing after collapsing inside a Walmart store, according to a Greenwood police Facebook post.
Officer Brandon White and Officer Kirby Claphan went to the Walmart of Bypass 25 Northeast after receiving a call about an unresponsive child.

The officers said they found the 3-year-old girl on the floor in the clothing section. A stranger was trying to help the child, who was not breathing, but the officers took over and performed CPR until emergency medical personnel arrived.
Greenwood Fire Department first responders used an automated external defibrillator to get a stable heartbeat, and emergency medical personnel transported her to Self Regional Hospital, the Facebook post said.
The child’s mother said her daughter has a chronic illness that requires her to use a feeding tube, and the tube had come out, causing her to stop breathing.
The Facebook post said the officers followed up on the child and learned she was being stabilized and transported to Greenville for further treatment.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the young child. We are praying for a quick recovery,” the post said. “We are very proud of officers Brandon White and Kirby Claphan who saw someone in need and did everything they could to help!”
