Pope Francis did not experience any more respiratory crises on Tuesday, according to the Vatican.
"During the day he alternated between spending time in prayer and at rest, and this morning he received the Eucharist," the Vatican said Tuesday.
While Pope Francis's condition is considered stable, officials said his prognosis is "guarded." He reportedly does not have a fever and remains alert.
"As scheduled, tonight he will resume non-invasive mechanical ventilation until tomorrow morning," the Vatican said.

Officials also noted that the bronchospasms that the pope suffered on Monday are not unexpected in someone suffering from pneumonia.
Pope Francis, 88, has been hospitalized since Feb. 14, which has forced him to cancel all public appearances while undergoing treatment.
The Vatican previously announced that Francis would not lead Ash Wednesday services at St. Peter's Square.
