A break in the pattern today with mostly dry conditions this morning and warmer afternoon temperatures.
With the warming trend through tomorrow look for a few thunderstorms Wednesday afternoon but a much better chance for afternoon thunderstorms Thursday afternoon
The Storm Prediction Center has a very low risk for strong to severe thunderstorms Thursday afternoon. A few storms could produce damaging winds and/or damaging hail.
5 day rain event across Montana has all area rivers running very high and a few approaching minor flood stage tonight through Friday. With additional wet weather coming Friday through Saturday look for high flowing rivers and streams through the weekend but the next 24 to 48 hours there could be some minor flooding issues.
The National Weather Service has issued a FLOOD WARNING for the Jefferson River between Whitehall to Three Forks through Friday afternoon. The Jefferson River at Three Forks could hit or exceed minor flood of 8′ tonight into Thursday but fall below minor flood stage by Friday afternoon. As the river hits 8′ there will likely be some agricultural land flooding.
The National Weather Service has issued a FLOOD WARNING for the Clark Fork River between Garrison to Drummond through Thursday morning. Smaller streams feeding into the Clark Fork downstream from Deer Lodge are running very strong and could force the Clark Fork at Drummond to reach minor flood stage tonight.
The next weather maker will be a weaker upper level Low that will likely trigger scattered showers and thunderstorms across Montana Thursday into Friday and possibly into Saturday.
Forecast models are showing another half an inch or more is possible for most of SW Montana. This will keep all area rivers and stream running high and fast through the weekend.
