BELGRADE, Mont. – Gallatin County Commissioners approved the adoption of the Belgrade Long Range Transportation Plan as part of Belgrade’s current growth policy.
The new plan will focus on the areas of study from a consultant who looked at traffic trends. The new plan will focus on adding bike and pedestrian paths within the town. There are currently only two streets that have bike lanes in Belgrade totaling about 1.25 miles.
Another part of the study is bringing in more funding for the Streamline Bus. According to the study, about 70% of Streamline’s Greenline riders are MSU students and faculty and 62% of riders use this route to commute to work.
The traffic consultant who conducted the traffic study and made recommendations also completed Bozeman’s traffic study. Belgrade Director of Planning Jason Karp said having the same person do studies for both areas is crucial to efficiency moving forward.
“As we continue through our planning coordinating committee process, having both transportation plans at committee makes recommendations on road standards on things all three jurisdictions. Gallatin County, city of Belgrade, city of Bozeman can do to work together,” said Karp.
Karp said this is the first time the transportation plan has had both bike and pedestrian trails for shared used paths.
