BOZEMAN – A quiet day weather wise but an active day for weak to moderate earthquakes.
The Manhattan area this morning was hit by two earthquakes. According to the USGS earthquake web site the first earthquake hit at 6:49 am with a magnitude of 2.5. The second and stronger earthquake hit at 10:46 am with a 3.3 magnitude strength.
The Central Park fault line runs between Churchill and Manhattan up to the Bridger range. So this region can see seismic activity. In fact, there have been numerous minor rumbles along this fault line in the past 10 days.
According to theUSGS a powerful earthquake hit this region back on June 27, 1925 with a 6.6 magnitude earthquake centered over the Clarkston Valley producing significant damage in a area of 75 miles from it’s center.
There are numerous fault lines running throughout SW Montana and in the Bozeman area alone there are 4 fault lines.

BOZEMAN: LOW: 28°; HIGH WEDNESDAY: 60°. Clear and frosty overnight but sunny and warmer Wednesday afternoon.
BUTTE: LOW: 27°; HIGH WEDNESDAY: 59°. Clear and frosty tonight for Butte and mostly sunny and warming up Wednesday.
DILLON: LOW: 25°; HIGH WEDNESDAY: 60°. Clear and frosty for Dillon again tonight but warming up into the 60s Wednesday.
WEST YELLOWSTONE: LOW: 16°; HIGH WEDNESDAY: 57°. Hard freeze setting up tonight under clear skies for West Yellowstone and it will take awhile but should warm up nicely Wednesday afternoon.
