BOZEMAN, Mont. – Bozeman continues to search for the city’s next affordable housing manager, a position that has been vacant since September 2018.

Director of Community Development Marty Matsen said the search to fill this position has been more difficult than the city anticipated due to factors such as timing, qualifications, and the holidays.

“We had a little delay in getting the advertisement out due to the holidays,” said Matsen. “So we are leaving that advertisement open until the end of January and then hopefully we should be able to start interviewing soon after that.”

Bozeman’s first affordable housing manager, Matthew Madsen, was hired in February 2018 to address the need for better housing in the ever-growing city. The city announced in September of last year that Madsen would be leaving the position and exploring other job opportunities.

Matsen said the search to find the next person to fill the job began in the middle of September with the hopes of finding the next candidate to step into the role by the beginning of the year. He said even though he wished the position was filled by now, it is crucial to find the perfect fit, and that starts by making sure the job posting portrayed the specific qualifications.

“You know, take things that were started and take them to the next step. So we are really looking for a unique individual to come in, and we wanted to take some time to make sure that the advertisement was getting that across to the folks out there,” said Matsen.

Matsen said the delay of the job posting has pushed back the time frame in which he hoped to fill the position, which most likely won’t be until at least March.
