HELENA – Democratic U.S. House candidate Kathleen Williams raised an impressive $2.1 million for her campaign the past few months, her campaign said Thursday.
Williams, a former state legislator from Bozeman, is challenging Republican Congressman Greg Gianforte for Montana’s only seat in the U.S. House.
Williams has now raised nearly $2.9 million for her campaign, with most of the money from donations in the past four months.
“These numbers show that Montanans are ready for a change in Congress,” said Andrew Markoff, Williams’ campaign manager. “They aren’t interested in an out-of-touch millionaire who doesn’t understand Montana’s values.”
Gianforte hasn’t yet released his fundraising numbers for the three months that ended Sept. 30.
As of June 30, Gianforte had about $1.37 million in his campaign account, compared to $462,000 for Williams at that time.
Williams’ campaign said her fundraising numbers are the result of a “massive grassroots effort to build momentum behind her campaign.”
Williams won a six-way Democratic primary in June to become the party’s nominee to challenge Gianforte, who was first elected in a special election in May 2017. A Democrat hasn’t won the seat since 1994.
