BOZEMAN, Mont.- The Gallatin County Clerk & Recorder’s office counted ballots for the Midterm General Election until 8 p.m. on Wednesday night.
Clerk & Recorder Charlotte Mills said there were a couple of problems that delayed the ballot counting process.
The first problem was the election judges felt overwhelmed by the long lines at the Gallatin County Fairgrounds and when ripping off the stubs, the time codes got ripped off too. The ballots needed the time codes in order to be run through the machine, so each one had to be duplicated.
The other problem was due to the ripping of ballots by the machine during the counting process.
“We finally figured out what our person, which is a county employee which runs that machine, actually found what the problem was, fixed it, and after that point, they ran through beautifully. He’s my hero now,” said Mills.
