Yellowstone County health officials announced Wednesday they've added 47 more COVID-19 deaths to the county's total, dating back from September 2020.
The reconciled numbers pushed Yellowstone County's COVID-19-related death toll to 226.
Officials at RiverStone Health, the county's public health department, said most of the 47 deaths occurred outside of hospitals in private residences, nursing homes or assisted-living facilities.
Deaths aren't counted as COVID-19-related unless that is a cause cited by the health-care provider who signed the death certificate, according to RiverStone.
“The reconciliation of data is a normal part of ensuring accuracy in public health information,” said John Felton, RiverStone Health president and CEO and Yellowstone County health officer, in a statement. “The verification of pandemic information is a much bigger job than usual public health reconciliation work because of the large number of COVID-19 cases and deaths.”
The deaths are now reflected in the state's COVID-19 database.
Last week, Yellowstone County also added 209 more cases to its database dating back to Ocober 2020 that hadn't previously been counted.
