A man in his 70s died Friday from COVID-19 related illness, according to RiverStone Health, the county's public health department.
The man was in a Yellowstone County hospital at the time of his death, according to a RiverStone media release. The health department said no further information would be released to protect the privacy of the deceased man and his family.
“I am deeply saddened by the news of yet another Yellowstone County resident losing his life to COVID-19. My most sincere condolences to his family as they grieve the loss of their loved one,” said John Felton, Yellowstone County Health Officer, President and CEO of RiverStone Health.
“During the first 18 days of the month, we have lost 11 Yellowstone County residents due to COVID-19 related illnesses and we are averaging 38 new infections a day. If this pace continues, the number of people infected in September will surpass August, when more than 1,000 residents became ill,” Felton added.
The 57th Yellowstone County death is the 157th in Montana, as reported Sunday on the state's COVID-19 tracking map.
As of Sunday, Yellowstone County reports 2,841 total COVID-19 cases; there are 764 active cases.
