BOZEMAN, Mont. – The parents of two young children are accused of using drugs in a Bozeman hotel room where their children stayed.
Brandi Lynn Gordon, 23, and Ryan Lloyd Sheets, 28, were seen in Gallatin County Justice Court on Monday morning and were both charged with endangering the welfare of children and criminal possession of dangerous drugs.
According to charging documents, a family member reported to Bozeman Police that the couple was using and selling heroin and meth out of their hotel room around their children, a 2-month old and a 2-year old.
Both Gordon and Sheets were listed as transient in their citations.
On Friday, March 22, 2019, Bozeman Police officers conducted a welfare check on the couple. While knocking on the door of the room registered to Gordon and Sheets, officers reportedly could hear someone moving around inside the room, moving objects in the room several times. After several minutes of knocking, Gordon came to the door and said it took her a while to come to the door because she was in the shower. When asked if they could come into the room, Gordon reportedly consented, and the children were observed on the bed nearest the bathroom.
According to charging documents, Gordon told officers there were no drugs in the room and gave officers permission to search the room. During the search, a propane torch, pills, and a black bag were found in the bathroom. The bag contained miscellaneous drug paraphernalia, including needles and spoons. A plastic baggy containing methamphetamine and a plastic container containing heroin were also found in the bag. While looking at the syringes found in the bag, one syringe was marked “his” and the other was marked “hers”. During the search, a large box of unused syringes was also located.
Officers noted in the court documents that the children had ease of access to enter the bathroom, allowing them to be exposed to meth, heroin, and paraphernalia.
Gordon was placed under arrest and Child Protective Services took custody of the children.
Gordon told officers that Sheets had left about an hour before officers arrived, but she had been texting him. She showed officers the texts, stating that Sheets told her not to open the door for the police.
Sheets was later located in the parking lot of the Gallatin County Detention Center, stating that he was going to turn himself into law enforcement.
Both Gordon and Sheets are being held on $25,000 bonds and will be seen again in court on April 19.
