Billings police provided this update:
At this time, Billings Police Department detectives have concluded their on-scene investigation. It has been determined that the remains had been at the location for a significant period of time.
There is no threat to the public, and no signs of foul play were discovered.
We would like to extend a sincere thank you to the Billings Fire Department Hazmat Team for their assistance during this incident.
Identification of the remains will be conducted by the Yellowstone County Coroner’s Office. Additional information will be released by the Billings Police Department in a future press release.

Update 12:50 p.m.
BILLINGS - Billings police are investigating after human remains were found at a South Side residence.
Police said in a social media post shortly before 1 p.m. that a Code Enforcement officer called for assistance Thursday morning after discovering the remains at a residence.
The residence is located at 3815 4th Ave. S.

BILLINGS - Billings police on Thursday morning taped off a residence on the Billings South Side and brought in the department's crime scene van.
Officials with the department had not released any information as of early Thursday afternoon.
An officer at the scene declined to release information to Q2 and referred questions to the department's public information officers, who were both not immediately available.
