Story by Jonathon Ambarian – MTN News

Firefighters in Jefferson County said Sunday they do not expect a wildfire burning south of Boulder to grow.

The Dawson Fire burned about 13 acres west of Montana Highway 69, and is 75 percent contained.

The Boulder-Bull Mountain Volunteer Fire Departments said on Facebook that ground crews from their departments and the U.S. Forest Service will keep working the fire until dark.

They’ll return Monday morning to see if the expected rain overnight puts the fire out completely.

Officials still ask the public to yield to firefighting traffic on Highway 69. They ask drivers not to stop on the highway or the shoulder, because it has created congestion in the area.

(1st Report, 12:14 p.m.) A fire burning in the mountains south of Boulder is approximately 13 acres and 75 percent contained.

According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, the Dawson Fire is burning west of Highway 69 near the turnoff to Elkhorn.

Authorities had closed the White Bridge Lane between Highway 69 and Lower Valley Road so helicopters could pick up water without interruption, however, helicopter operations have ceased for now.

Ground crews from the Forest Service and Boulder-Bull Mountain Volunteer Fire are continuing to work the fire from the ground.

No injuries have been reported. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.

We will update you when we get more information.
