POPLAR, Mont. – A fire that started on Friday evening north of Poplar has burned an estimated 6,400 acres.

Poplar Volunteer Fire Department reported that the fire was started by a swather and had traveled to Highway 251 (known locally as the RY) and jumped Roosevelt County road 2035 on Saturday evening.

One residence was evacuated and no serious injuries were reported.

On Sunday, crews were dispatched to a small flare-up around 3:50 p.m. due to a combine spark, but the fire was kept to three acres. Medicine Lake’s Fire Chief was part of the harvest crew and was able to stop the spread with a Roosevelt County road grader.

PVFD said a helicopter was dispatched from BIA and no hot spots of any kind were observed on the fire.

Several agencies responded to the fire including Poplar, Brockton, Culbertson, Bainville, Froid, Medicine Lake, Scobey, Glasgow, BIA, and the Roosevelt County Roads Department.
