CLARKSTON, Mont. – The Montana DNRC has taken command of the Horseshoe fire burning near Clarkston, north of Three Forks.
While the fire continued to burn Tuesday, firefighters say they have stopped the forward progress and no more homes have been lost. Also, no injuries have been reported.
Several homes and other buildings were lost Monday night, but a count of how many has not been released.
Firefighters say the rugged terrain east of the Missouri River and the long hauls for water tenders and helicopters makes fighting the fire difficult. Also, the area is full of fast burning juniper and brush. That makes it difficult to get ahead of the fast-moving flames.
So far, no evacuations have been ordered.
