Horseshoe Fire victims, Clarkston community still need support

CLARKSTON, Mont. – For the first time since the Horseshoe Fire destroyed his home of 20 years, Mark McMurtry returned Tuesday to see the carnage and what might be left in the ashes. McMurtry says it’s not as bad as he imagined but still, he’s in need of a lot and he’s not alone.

The American Red Cross says it’s providing support to eight people following the Horseshoe Fire. Another avenue for support is seen with GoFundMe accounts.

McMurtry is thankful for his neighbor Jake Heckman who has organized the GoFundMe account and donations for the cleanup.

“It defies description what Jake’s done for me,” said McMurtry. “I’ve never had anybody rescue me. I’ve been totally independent my whole life since the third grade.”

If you like to help, you can visit McMurtry’s GoFundMe account by clicking here.

Help is also needed for the entire community. New radios are needed for the Clarkston Fire Service. This weekend, Clarkston Fire is holding its first annual Bigfoot Hunt,  where people can bid on auction items and pay for a chance to find sasquatch in the mountains.
