Flathead Valley fire crews were able to save several structures and knock down a grass fire near Foy’s Lake Tuesday afternoon.
Smith Valley Fire Department Chief Amy Beick tells KPAX that firefighters were dispatched to a smoke investigation in the area of Lone Pine State Park around 2:30 p.m.
When crews arrived on scene, they noticed it was a grass fire that threatened a few nearby structures. None of those structures were damaged in the blaze.
The fire is estimated to have burned about 45 acres.
Beick says they want to remind residents that fire season isn’t over yet, and although open burning is allowed, they are urging people to take precautions and be responsible with their debris burning to prevent fire starts.
“We’d like to kind of stress that you know, it is open burn season but it’s still very dry out, the fuels are very cured, and we’re seeing a lot of significant wildfire behavior for October,” Beick said.
Several agencies from around the Flathead Valley responded to the scene, including the Flathead Office of Emergency Services and DNRC.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
