WHITEHALL, Mont. – A fire early Saturday morning in Whitehall destroyed some trailer homes in a junkyard south of town.

The Whitehall Volunteer Fire Department received the call about 4:15 a.m. from a former salvage yard off Piedmont Road near Kountz Road.

The unoccupied structures were fully involved in fire and destroyed by the time firefighters put out the blaze.

The local department received assistance from Home Atherton and Boulevard volunteer fire departments in Butte.

“It’s great to have mutual aid partners like that to be able to help when we’re short on volunteers,” said Whitehall Fire Chief Jeremy Ward. “Across Montana we’re in dire need of volunteers, so it’s great to be able to rely on mutual aid partners to help out in that. We couldn’t have done it without them.”

Ward said there were no injuries reported in the fire and the cause remains under investigation.
