DILLON – Firefighters in Beaverhead County are fighting a 40-acre wildfire about a mile south of Bannack Tuesday afternoon.
The Dillon Interagency Dispatch Center reports that lightning moving through the region likely caused the fire, which is burning in a mix of sagebrush and grass and is moving into the timber.
There are three engines and multiple volunteer firefighting agencies on scene battling the blaze. A helicopter is also on the way to assist in containing the fire.
Lightning strikes also have started some smaller fires in the region that are expected to be kept under control.
