Wildfire burns near Elmo

Fire burns between 20 and 100 acres near Elmo

ELMO - CSKT Division of Fire officials report that approximately 471 acres have burned in a wildfire that broke out Tuesday night in the Elmo area.

A brush fire broke out Tuesday night closing Highway 28 between Niarada and Elmo.

Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribal Fire dispatch estimates the fire burned between 20 and 100 acres.

Rural departments from Ronan, Polson and Chief Cliff were on scene to help battle the fire.

The blaze is out but smoke is still lifting from the interior.

Crews are back up to check it out and traffic has occasionally been stopped on the highway due to the smoke.
