The Long Gulch Fire which is burning in Long Gulch about five air miles northeast of St. Regis on the Superior Ranger District in Mineral County is now 60% contained.
The Lolo National Forest says the first reported at 8:20 p.m. on Aug. 24 by Pat’s Knob and Camel’s Hump Lookouts.
The fire is fully lined with fire line and a hose lay.
Firefighters mopped up and extinguished hot spots, 50-to-60 feet inside the containment line on Wednesday.
The fire was estimated to be eight acres in size and burning in an active logging unit within the 7 Mag timber sale.
Crews are continuing to secure the perimeter with mop-up activities to ensure the fire will withstand the dry cold front forecasted for Saturday which may bring gusty winds.
