Great Falls is adding some color to downtown

Keeley Van Middendorp talked with Kim Skornogoski about some changes coming to downtown Great Falls.

Volunteers from the community and organizations including Get Fit Great Falls are painting crosswalks as part of the Montana Building Active Communities Initiative (BACI).

BACI aims to promote ways that Montana residents can engage with their surroundings while bringing foot traffic to urban areas.

The initiative also works to provide a safe environment for pedestrians of all ages.

Skornogoski says they’ve been adding bright additions at crosswalks that encourage drivers to slow down for three years in a row: “Makes our community attractive to tourists and young people,” she said. “But it also changes their behavior and gets people more inspired to walk our downtown.”

The group will be painting 3rd Street South and Central Avenue next week; they’re always looking for volunteers. If you're interested, call Skornogoski at 406-727-3400.
