BIG SKY, Mont. – The Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the shooting of multiple horses at their winter ranging pasture in Madison Valley.

All three horses have survived the shots to the neck which occurred on different dates starting earlier this summer.

“A one-time act could be random, but at this point it appears to be an intentional act,” said Gallatin County Undersheriff Dan Springer.

Jake’s Horses operates its backpacking and horse riding company out of Big Sky, but the horses also spend time in Madison Valley for winter range or other needs. All 3 horses shot were at the Madison Valley property.

Undersheriff Springer says due to the shootings’ somewhat remote location, it’s a challenging investigation.

This is a developing story.
