BOZEMAN, Mont. – The Gallatin Valley Land Trust completed its “Main Street to Mountains” vision by opening a 2.5-mile portion of trail that allows users to walk from Main Street up to the Triple Tree Summit South of Bozeman.
“It’s a day of gratitude, it’s a day of celebration and it’s also emotional,” said GVLT Executive Director Penelope Pierce.
GVLT was founded by Chris Boyd who had the vision for this 28 years ago. He passed away before seeing its completion.
“He, along with a lot of wonderful people here, had a vision and he had tenacity, and he now has a legacy,” said Pierce.
The portion of trail opened Friday connects the Painted Hills Trail to the Triple Tree Trail. From downtown to the summits, it’s more than 8 miles. Much of the new trail section was made possible by private land donors and easements from the county.
GVLT says it hopes that next year ground will break on a connection from Main Street to the North, to the Bridger Mountains.
