BOZEMAN, Mont. – Starting in October, the Bozeman Daily Chronicle will stop allowing free-access news across its website, instead offering 5 free stories a month.

Mark Dobie, Publisher for Bozeman Daily Chronicle, told KBZK in a phone interview, “the current model is unsustainable and we want to offer a sustainable model to offer high-quality news.”

Dobie said the added revenue will allow for fewer ads on the website, which is expected to speed up page load times. Additionally, the news outlet plans to develop its own app which is expected to be available in November, according to Dobie.

Customers who pay for a physical newspaper subscription will still have full access online. There are plans to offer discounts for seniors and college students interested in a subscription. Dobie says breaking news, obituaries and Associated Press stories shared will remain free.
