BOZEMAN, Mont. – The Bozeman Fire Department will make a special presentation at the Bozeman City Commission Meeting on Monday.

The department will be releasing its first-ever strategic plan, which will be used by all of the stations in town when it comes to making budgeting, operations, or any departmental decisions.

“While we probably needed this a long time ago, this has kinda been the ideal time for us to finally put one together,” said Fire Chief Joshua Waldo.

The plan comes due to the department pursuing accreditation. Waldo said Bozeman Fire is in the beginning of that process and accreditation requires the department to follow a strategic plan.

“I think it is extremely important in a community like this, where things are growing so fast. We have to have a plan and we have to have everyone working in the same direction if we are going to keep up with what’s going on in this community.”

Waldo said the strategic plan is a combination of the Fire & EMS Master Plan as well as the City’s Strategic Plan.

“Taking those two documents and putting them into one guiding document for us, for the first time, is something we are really excited about,” said Waldo.

The main focus of this new plan is to get the $37 million Bozeman Public Safety Center passed by voters in November.

“So that is our big one that we are focused on right now. If we can get that pushed through we can move on to some other projects,” Waldo said.

Waldo added that accreditation requires the department to update the plan after the first three years that it is in place, but after that, the plan will be revised every five years.
