BOZEMAN, Mont. – A campaign to normalize breastfeeding—Bozeman Breastfeeds—started its local tour through the city on Thursday.
Five mothers in Bozeman agreed this summer to have their photo taken while breastfeeding their children and have now been made into life-size cutouts that will be seen at various locations around Bozeman.
According to the project, Montana ranks first in the nation for the rate of exclusive breastfeeding from ages three and six months, yet there is still a stigma around public breastfeeding.
Bozeman Breastfeeds hopes that by having these photos out in the public it will lessen the stigma breastfeeding mothers face.
“And so if we can be an example, to others throughout the state but more importantly to our own community to support those breastfeeding families, we want to do everything we can,” said local Nurse Daisy Zell.
The photos were displayed yesterday at the Gallatin County Health Department and later were taken to the Bozeman Public Library. Any business interested in hosting the outreach project can call the Health Department to set up a date and time.
