BOZEMAN, Mont. – Skiing is a major draw for Montana during the winter season and local ski hill Bridger Bowl is doing its part to make sure every child in the area learns to ski.
Bridger Bowl will see 5,000 kids pass through its Ski PE Program. Most school-age students in the area will get at least one ski day this season.
“In conjunction with our mission statement of making skiing and riding affordable for the local community, and our passion of keeping it that way, we have kids form a 150-mile radius come to Bridger Bowl every weekday during the school year,” said Shannon Griffin, Director of Bridger Bowl Snow Sports School.
All receive a reduced rate of $35 for a lesson, equipment and a day on the hill. No student is left out, as the ski hill provides help for those in need.
“The Bridger Bowl Foundation helps out any hardship cases, so if anyone can’t afford it, the foundation will cover expenses,” said Griffin.
And for many of the kids, it’s a welcome break from school.
“I like having fun with our friends,” said one skier named Olivia. “Going on runs by ourselves.”
“We get to know people better and make new friends,” said another skier named Abby. “There are different levels, it’s a pretty cool mountain. If you go up high the views are really pretty.”
“It’s a blast to get to go have fun, and teach the responsibility code,” said Griffing. “And get kids out on the mountain, enjoying winter.”
