BOZEMAN, Mont. – Bozeman High School Principal Kevin Conwell will resign effective January 31, 2019.
In an email obtained by MTN News, Superintendent Rob Watson announced to BHS parents, guardians and students that Principal Conwell would be stepping down from his position due to his health.
Conwell issued a statement in the email to explain his decision:
“With help from my wife, Barb, I am again writing to you from the University of Utah Hospital,” wrote Conwell. “In light of my current health, I believe it’s in the best interest of Bozeman Public Schools and my family that I resign as Bozeman High School’s principal and retire effective January 31, 2019 After nearly 34 years as an educator and administrator, the time has come for me to step aside and focus on getting better and spending time with my family.”
Conwell stated in the email that with rehabilitation, his motor skills have improved but he still struggles with everyday tasks. He closed the letter by thanking the community for the support and encouragement he has received.
“Each day we are reminded how fortunate we are to be surrounded by such caring and supportive colleagues, friends, and family. We wish you all the best and hope that each of you enjoys a healthy, happy holiday season,” said Conwell.
Katie Laslovich will serve as the Interim Principal until the end of the school year.
Watson said the Bozeman School District will start searching for two principals soon, one for the current high school and one for the new high school projected to open in the fall of 2020. The Bozeman School District hopes to fill both positions by the next school year.
