BOZEMAN, Mont. – Students in the Bozeman School District have Martin Luther King, Jr. Day off as a holiday this year.

The district classified the day as a PIR day, meaning students have the day off and teachers use the time for professional development.

Superintendent of Schools Rob Watson said students will be learning about MLK throughout the week since they won’t be in school on the actual holiday.

“On that particular day, not having students in school, it is more important than ever that we remind students what the day is for and talk about what he did for our country,” said Watson.

Watson said moving forward the plan is to either have a school holiday or a PIR day on the holiday.
