Bozeman Airport is planning on adding 70,000 square feet to their terminal, which includes adding and remodeling gates, adding tarmac, more passenger boarding bridges, and more shops for a growing number of passengers.

More than 1 million passengers traveled through Bozeman Airport last year. With these numbers expected to increase considerably, the airport will be adding four new gates, a project that will be starting almost immediately.

“So we will start construction on that in March and hopefully about 14 months later we’ll open up the summer of 2020.” Airport Director Brian Sprenger said.

Unlike the runway resurfacing last year, flight operations won’t be impacted.

“No, we’ve been very fortunate with working with our contractor Martel Construction to maintain all 8 gates during construction, so will really have no impacts to our passengers. We’ve planned for minimal impacts on our passengers. We’ll see some construction around the Gate 8 area but for the most part, we’ll just be taking away a little bit of view and most passengers won’t even notice until we open it up next year.” Sprenger said.

Airport officials are already planning on which airlines will be using the new gates.

“For the gates, we’re expecting to move one of our major carriers into the new section, most likely that’s going to be United, then will probably relocate Alaska Airlines into the new section, as well. We’ll have some flex gates as well which will allow us to operate several different airlines out of the same gate, depending on need,” Sprenger said.

The concourse expansion will serve BZN growth, which has set passenger records by at least 20 percent in the last three months.
