LOGAN, Mont. – Flooding was reported in Logan this week after an ice jam along the Gallatin River caused some problems along Loan and Trident road.
Despite water on the roadway, it’s not closed, but motorists are urged to use some extra precautions.
Flood warnings have been in effect this week for both the Madison River near Highway 287 to the south and east of Ennis and the Gallatin River along Logan and Trident roads.
As of Tuesday, part of the Gallatin was at minor flood stage until the flood gauge failed likely due to ice. Regardless, the National Weather Service in Great Falls is forecasting that this part of the Gallatin through this weekend could see possible flooding.
Neither new evacuation orders nor road closures have been issued but Gallatin County Emergency Management and the Sheriff’s office are monitoring the situation very closely because rapidly changing conditions could mean a quick water rise at any time.
Today is March 1st and unfortunately, March is the peak month in the state of Montana for ice jam flooding, so If you are around a river and you do see water across the roadways, remember: If there’s any doubt always find a different route.
