BOZEMAN, Mont. – On Friday, Bozeman Mayor Cyndy Andrus visited first-graders at Monforton School to talk about a letter she was sent from a student who is concerned about poverty.
For a project, six-year-old Colton wrote a letter to Mayor Andrus, worried about the homeless in Bozeman. He said he wrote to the mayor because he thought she would be the best person to help him come up with a solution.
“I choose to write about poor people and why is, because people could have cancer right now and they could be dying without food or water,” Colton said.
Andrus was impressed by Colton’s letter and after meeting with all of the first-graders in the school, they decided to work on a food drive to help those in need during this cold time of the year.
“It is just interesting to think about what young folks think about,” Andrus said. “I think that letting them know that we do have resources in the community that address these things, and then also looking forward to how they can help, how this first-grade class is able to do something to take a step in the direction that solves this problem.”
Andrus said she will be meeting with Colton in the next month to plan the food drive.
