The Montana Department of Transportation’s target for getting the snow out of the streets this week is set on downtown Bozeman.
While plow drivers have focused on side roads and major highways surrounding the city, drivers heading downtown can still see a large berm of snow right in the middle of the street — and it has caused several problems.
Montana Department of Transportation Maintenance Chief Kyle DeMars says that column of snow will be eliminated by the end of the week, weather permitting.
DeMars adds that the delay on removing the berm is part of a careful order of operations.
“Traveler safety is always number one, interstates or primary, highway roads. We want to make sure those are safe at the higher speeds and people are getting around. If those aren’t plowed, they aren’t coming to town, so we have to get those roads plowed first.”
He says the incoming warm-up could also help remove the berm but could cause plows to focus once again on side roads first.
