BOZEMAN, Mont. – In a special meeting on Monday, the Bozeman School Board decided to pause its decision to name Bozeman’s second high school Bozeman Westslope High School after backlash from the community.

The board met at noon on Monday to discuss the 300+ emails they received from the public after approving the name a week ago. Board members said they believe they did not truly get enough public comment and would like to receive more community input on the name, which is why they are taking a second look.

The High School Transition Committee met Monday evening after the special board meeting and added two more potential names to the list of finalists: Bozeman Gallatin High School and Bozeman West High School.

These names will be considered with the three already in contention: Bozeman Westslope High School, Bozeman Spanish Peaks High School, and Bozeman Storm Castle High School.

The five names will be polled by students, parents, staff, and community members. The school board will consider those results when deciding again on the final name, either on March 11 or March 25.
