BOZEMAN, Mont. – The Gallatin City-County Health Department hosted a walk-in clinic for measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) immunization on Monday afternoon, in hopes of protecting people before they travel for Spring Break.

Since the beginning of 2019, health officials have reported cases of measles in many places in the United States as well as international locations.

“Spring break is right around the corner. When that happens in Gallatin County, people tend to scatter to all points of the globe to look for some sunshine and warm weather. We want them to come back with maybe some sun on their faces and souvenirs, but not with preventable diseases,” Health Officer Matt Kelley said.

The Health Department is protecting the community by giving people the opportunity to get vaccinated if they haven’t already been.

Two doses of the MMR vaccine protects 97 percent of people from measles and 88 percent from mumps.

According to Kelley, if you and your child are going to the doctor regularly and are receiving all of the suggested vaccines, then you’ve probably already received the MMR vaccine and there’s no need to be concerned.

Kelley said it’s only a small percent of children in Gallatin County who are not vaccinated.
