BOZEMAN, Mont. – The Gallatin Valley Food Bank saw its average amount of people needing food assistance this winter.

Food and Nutrition Director Jill Holder said the Food Bank sees on average 1,200 households each month, which equals out to about 3,000 people in the community, or one in eight people.

The numbers were slightly lower for February, and Holder believes it may have to do with the weather that month.

“When it was 10 below, no one’s cars were starting very well and that certainly is the case for many of our clients and customers. I think the snow has been a factor also and the roads were really crummy,” Holder said.

She added that the summer is the busiest time for the Food Bank with families having to feed kids three meals.
