After speaking to students in a Master class on the MSU campus Thursday afternoon retired astronaut and Navy captain Scott Kelly said he hoped to inspire a new generation of scientists and engineers for the space program. Kelly said even though he struggled as a student he thinks school is even more difficult for young people today. He said technology, science, the world, in fact, is much more complicated today than what he faced in college. But he said he believes the students of today are up to the challenge.

Alluding to his brother’s run for a U. S. Senate seat, Kelly called for both houses of Congress to be filled with scientists or at least people with training in science. He said they would be better equipped to deal with the technological world we need to manage today.

Kelly speaks to the general public tonight at 7:30 at the Brick Breeden Fieldhouse on the MSU campus.
