Painted Hills Connector trail closed due to muddy conditions

Posted

BOZEMAN – The Gallatin Valley Land Trust is notifying trail users that the new Painted Hills Connector Trail, which opened this past fall, has been temporarily closed, while the trail dries after recent rains and the spring melt-off.

According to a social media post, using muddy trails can cause significant damage and require costly repairs.

As a newly constructed trail, the soil has not had a chance to stabilize and compact on the trail. The Painted Hills Trail is open to the former dead end (although it is still muddy and should be avoided).

GVLT and volunteers will be working on the connection prior to opening to follow up work on drainage and naturalization of the trail corridor.

GVLT asks all hikers and bikers to be respectful and obey the trail closure. “There are so many other great trails to visit,” a Facebook post states. “We appreciate your cooperation and patience!”
