Gallatin County Emergency Management is reporting that it is that time of year again.

Many small waterways across the Gallatin Valley are showing signs of larger amounts of water.

As the water picks up speed, anything blocking these waterways or drains can cause problems.

The emergency management chief says with the last bout of rain and warmer temperatures on the way, melting mountain snow will make waters (i.e. the East Gallatin River) continue to rise.

He encourages people with watchful eyes to “keep the water flowing” by safely removing obstructions if they see them.

“Keep it flowing,” says Patrick Lonergan, Gallatin County Emergency Management & Fire chief. “Keep it where we want it. We don’t want it getting backed up and affecting houses and property. We want it to stay in the creeks, stay in the ditches, stay in the drains and keeping it flowing is a key message this time of year.”

Lonergan reminds that with conditions always changing, it is a good idea to sign up for the Community Notification System.
