BOZEMAN, Mont.- The Bozeman School District’s High School Transition Committee met Wednesday evening to review results form the student and staff poll for Bozeman Gallatin High Schools Mascot and Colors. The committee was able to narrow down the list from those results.

The Transition Committee, which is made up of parents, teachers, school administrators, and students was able to narrow down the list of 24 mascots and 11 color combinations to five mascot options and four color combinations from the next poll.

The committee also decided that it will send out a community and another student poll now that the options are narrowed.

One thing that was continually stressed amongst the group was focusing on what the students want for this decision.

The mascot options are Raptors, Osprey, Rams, Mountaineers, and Timberwolves.

The color combination options are:

  • black and light blue
  • black and royal blue
  • black and silver
  • orange and gray

Many members in the community have expressed being in favor of having the Mountaineers as the mascot in honor of Army Staff Sergeant Travis Atkins who received the Medal of Honor last month.

The Mountaineers were a top choice on the staff poll but not one on the student poll.

There was a 44 percent response rate for students and 75 percent for staff.

We will keep you updated once we learn more about the details about that community poll.

The committee is hoping to bring a recommendation to the school board by the May 13th board meeting.
