BOZEMAN, Mont. – Montana State University has been designated a Tree Campus USA college by the Arbor Day Foundation for the seventh year in a row.

MSU was given the award based on maintaining a tree advisory committee and a tree care plan, committing to a student service-learning project with annual expenditures toward trees, and observing Arbor Day.

Arborist Lonnie Sickler says that trees are important for stormwater runoff, cleaning the air, and much more.

“We’ve always interacted with trees, and we start to move into urban environments, sometimes we forget about it and there’s just something missing. I think there’s general well-being when there are healthy trees around and it shows a thriving community.” Sickler said.

MSU will be celebrating Arbor Day a day early by planting seven new trees on campus Thursday afternoon.
