NorthWestern Energy crews are trimming and removing trees from their power lines in the Gallatin Canyon.

The lines are along highway 191 and Since the terrain is steep, crews are using a helicopter and a saw to work on the trees. Northwestern put in the lines 3 years ago but a rise in beetle infections have been slowly killing the trees along which can cause power outages for parts of Gallatin County as they become grey and unstable.

“These are hazard trees, they are located just outside of northwestern energies right of way but are dead from this beetle and a weather event or something,” Public Relations Specialists Jo Dee Black said.

Officials aren’t sure how long the tree removal procedures will last.
